I will start - I am Gary from Newton, MA. I started my investing journey ~25 years ago as young analyst at Fidelity Investments. Now I am the Managing Partner & CIO of Silver Ring Value Partners, and I also teach the Value Investing Seminar at the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson.

From Nashville, Tennessee, I am a natural contrarian value investor, 30 years all self taught, and I averaged around 15% year CAGR unlevered (14.5% while working full-time, then 16.5 to 17% the last 9 years as I shifted to investing 100%) by concentrating my investments in low PE, Ev, etc stocks, and no investments in tech or growth. I am a chemical engineer and worked in the refining industry and in Dc analyzing the sector for economic impact for regulatory stuff (non investing related). I invest primarily in large caps.

Over the last 9 years, after growing my savings to be free, I seem to be getting better returns from having more time for diligence and from professionalizing my knowledge base. When I first started investing, I read a behavioral book on investing and it was a lightening bolt moment, as I instantly adopted and applied items from the book. Since I only make 1 or 2 new investments a year, it's a big factor in my ability to get extra alpha. However, I think I can learn from anybody. Plus, I am still very hungry to learn something new, as well as sharpening my edge.

Hi everyone, I’m Navin from India.

I’ve been investing as an individual for a few years now, mostly focusing on long-term fundamentals and trying to build a disciplined approach. I’m drawn to value investing because it aligns with my temperament—patient, analytical, and focused on intrinsic value rather than market noise.

I’m excited to take the Value Investing Seminar to deepen my understanding, sharpen my process, and learn directly from experienced practitioners like Gary. As someone outside the professional investing world, I see this as a great opportunity to bridge the gap and refine my edge.

Looking forward to learning from all of you!

Hello everyone,

This is Karthik from Bangalore, India here!

Grateful to you Gary for making this happen. I have been reading and learning from your articles and interviews some clearly elucidated principles from the Masters of investing.

And now this opportunity to learn directly from you in a quasi classroom setting...this is amazing, thanks!

I seek to understand how the bedrock of value investing principles can be applied in this new digital era.

I also teach financial literacy and the fundamentals of investing to kids from 8th grade and above, as I don't find much reference to this vital life skill in our schools.

Thanks Gary, looking forward to an enriching session.

Warm Regards,

Karthik

I'm MH from China. Started investing during the 2022 war. Been an occasional reader of Gary's letters. First book that really got me into investing - one up on wall Street. I have learned to pick stocks from super investor picks only. Hoping to learn more.

I am Khaled from Canada. I studied Accounting and Finance. I started my investing journey about 5 years ago, around the start of the COVID lockdowns. The very first stock I bought was a large-cap stock. I mainly bought it because I thought it was safe. I made money on my purchase, but I did not know why I made money, and that annoyed me. So, I started reading about investing and discovered many great investors. My favorite investor and teacher is Joel Greenblatt.

I am excited to see how people define Value Investing at the early stages of the seminar and at the end. Graham did not define it in Security Analysis. I define Value Investing as figuring out what something is worth and paying a lot less for it. I am looking for a mispriced situation. Quality and high-ROIC businesses are overrated because they’re usually fairly priced or overpriced. I will revisit my definition as we progress through the readings.

Hi everyone - Pedro Saboia from Fairfield County, CT. Originally from Brazil, I had a career in investing prior to moving into Strategic Finance / Consulting. I have remained interested in investing and love Gary's writing so I thought this would be a great opportunity - thanks, Gary!

Somto Okoye's avatar

Hi everyone. I'm Somto, from Nigeria and work in London.

I got into value investing after almost losing everything on crypto, luckily pulling out the night before a crash, because I wasn't comfortable staying invested without a why.

My search for an approach that aligned with my personality got me into value investing.

Looking forward to learning from one of the best!

Ritchie's avatar

Hi everyone, my name is Ritchie from Canada.

I started to really invest since 2010 as I don't count what I was doing before then as investing. Most of my investing knowledge is from reading books and learning from other successful investors.

I am mostly a CDN microcap/small cap investor as that is what I am interested in and also believe I have an edge over others.

Kamal from Raleigh, NC. I have invested in stocks since 2000 (WebVan days). I am comfortable with investing in a blend of value/growth stocks. I work in IT, so fascinated to learn the basics of investing! Thanks for teaching.

Björn's avatar

Hi, I’m Björn, from Paris, France.

I switched careers to finance in 2019. Starting in operations and reporting, I fell in love with investing, which led me to build academic knowledge and earn my CFA charter. I quickly realized that my personality fit well with that of other value investors — not following the crowd, thinking from first principles, and reasoning in terms of limits, as we would say in math.

People have influenced me in investing: Ben Graham, Warren Buffett, Aswath Damodaran, Charlie Munger, Howard Marks, Monish Pabrai, Guy Spier, Phil Fisher mainly.

Joakim Paurell's avatar

Hi! I'm Joakim Paurell, an investing enthusiast from Sweden.

I’ve been investing for about 28 years, constantly learning and evolving my style. I wouldn’t call myself a pure value investor in the traditional “buy low P/E” sense, I prefer Buffett’s approach, where all investing is about value, whether that means buying at a low price today or aiming for high returns in the future. Ultimately, it’s all about future cash flow compared to price, and that’s where I focus.

I’m really looking forward to learning more from all of you. Nice to meet you all!

Stan Mullin's avatar

Stan from Irvine, CA. Have followed, read about Buffett & Munger for years, and admired the knowledge others have gained from the CFA Institute. Have tried to tailor my investing accordingly. Thought this course would be an ideal way to finally read and understand Security Analysis, along with the other books Gary has mentioned.

Hi everyone,

I’m Antonio Dumont from Austin, TX.

I’m originally from Brazil, where I started my investment career in 2012. I have experience in investment consulting focused on value investing principles, as well as managing my own portfolio. I’m an active learner and reader, and I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to grow both as an investor and as a person in this seminar. Thanks Gary.
